What was your favorite outreach event this year? 
The YMCA Chinatown vaccination event taught me the importance of communicating effectively and patiently. The parents of the children receiving the vaccines were worried and anxious as they inquired about the potential side effect or the possibility of medical insurance coverage. As interpreters, we learned to reassure the parents by helping them with insurance information or by bringing their medical-related concerns to the relevant medical professionals. This event taught me that being a medical interpreter does not merely require familiarity with medical terms but also the ability to support the patients through stressful events.
