Korean Community Health Services (KCHS) Clinics
KCHS is a new community health clinic for the underserved, limited-English proficient Korean immigrants in Oakland. Their services include hepatitis B clinics, mammogram clinics, prostate cancer screenings, and other community health-oriented events. KCHS is looking for volunteers to help with patient registration, interpretation, and possibly help managing some of their programs. VHIO mainly provide registration and interpretation services to patients at clinics. Volunteers can expand their role if they wish to become more involved.
BMI/Blood Pressure Clinic
Oakland Senior Center
3rd Saturday of each month
Hepatitis B Clinic
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (Merritt Pavilion)
3rd Saturday of each month

Volunteers help with hepatitis B vaccinations. There is an emphasis on outreach, since many patients have to work, and it is difficult to remember appointments for subsequent vaccinations.

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (Merritt Pavilion)
4th Saturday of each month (clinics every other month starting in 2012)
8am-12pm
Volunteers facilitate the verbal health interview and breast examination with the nurse practitioner, in addition to the mammogram taken by a technician.
Prostate Cancer Screening
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (Merritt Pavilion)
1 clinic in May, 3 clinics in September of 2011
Time TBA
If you are interested in volunteering, please take a look at their website and fill out their form. Return the form to VHIO, and we will submit your application to the KCHS volunteer coordinator.
