Hello everybody, my name is Zeyi. I am very honored and excited to continue as the Director of External Affairs for 2019 - 2020. I am a fourth year Public Health and MCB - Genetics double major. I have joined VHIO since I was a freshman and this has certainly been one of the best parts of my college experience. The mission to break language barriers in healthcare and serve underserved communities has resonated with me a lot since the very beginning and this experience has further confirmed my career aspirations. VHIO is truly a great place to serve the community while meeting awesome people! In my spare time, I love to go hiking and watch cute puppy videos.

Hi everyone! My name is Amy Yan, and I’m incredibly excited to be working as one of the the Chinese Department Coordinators. I feel so grateful to have been able to join the VHIO community in my first year and to have been able to apply my love for languages with my passion for serving the community. I care deeply about a plethora of many things: global climate change (we should stand for what we stand on), my friends, tiramisu, living a bountiful life, clothing with pockets in them, Rihanna, and making my parents proud. I was born in Vietnam but moved to southern California (shout out to the 626!) in the third grade. I decided to join VHIO because I saw that the organization provides services to populations with backgrounds similar to that of my family, and I wanted to use my privilege of being bilingual to give back to the community that I came from. When I'm not studying or in club meetings, you can catch me looking at puppies or jamming with the Cal Band!

Hello! My name is Catherine Livelo and I look forward to being one of the Tagalog Department Coordinators for VHIO this year! I grew up in San Diego, CA and am currently a 3rd year majoring in Molecular Cell Biology with an emphasis in Neurobiology here at UC Berkeley. Joining VHIO has allowed me to not only help individuals in community struggling with language barriers but also pursue my interests in the pre-health industry. In being a part of this incredibly altruistic organization, I've gotten to meet an amazing cohort of warm-hearted and dedicated individuals and connect with patients on a cultural level. I joined VHIO during my first semester at Berkeley last year as a freshman, and I am excited to be one of the Japanese Department Coordinators. Because I have had a difficult time overcoming the language barrier myself in the U.S., serving as an interpreter/translator through VHIO to help people communicate has been a very fulfilling experience for me. In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano and hiking or simply going for a nice walk. Please let me know if you know of any good hiking trail and want a buddy to come along!
